Memphisto was the first song I created using Fruity Studio, and was the song that launched Perpetual Emotion Machine, basically.
I was given this software to try by a friend of mine, and I was a little leery of it. I hadn't written anything in four years, and had only done stuff in trackers up to that point. So needless to say I was a little rusty, and I didn't know if I had the head to try and learn a new piece of software. But at the time, I had nothing but time, so I decided to give it a try.
I chose this as a cover, because it was easier than coming up with a new song, and I've always liked this instrumental Depeche Mode track; I knew it by heart. It was remarkably easy, and a good learning experience, so I was able to tackle new material shortly after this was completed.
At one point, Memphisto was slated in the Omega album, as the track before Flight Deck, but obviously when the idea of PEM became serious, and not just a lark, I head to scrap it for obvious copyright issues, and Reunion naturally took its place in the track listing.
This version is rough, and hasn't been touched since 2005.
